6 Writing Tips For Authors

Some authors find themselves in a slump after writing books and they try to figure out how to make their next novel different. Depending on what you're writing you can bring life back to your stories by using these 6 tips for authors.

1) Use actions not words to describe - This may sound funny because you are writing, but don't tell us what your character likes or dislikes, describe their actions and feelings instead. For example, instead of saying Elizabeth doesn't like tomatoes, say when Elizabeth saw her mom putting tomatoes in her salad she got nauseous. The smell and taste of tomatoes has always made her cringe. Now your readers know she doesn't like tomatoes and why.
2) Try to picture the event taking place - When you feel like a sequence isn't coming together, try to picture the event in your mind taking place. Capture all the details you feel and what your character would feel. Then put it into words. Sometimes it is easier to visualize it before actually writing it down.
3) Make people believe in your story - People want to feel like they are being transitioned into a book when they are reading it. They want to experience what is going on and look forward to what is next. Make sure you put true facts in all nonfiction work and details in all your non-fiction work. People want to be able to understand if they can't relate.
4) Don't focus on the ending while writing - When writing you can make many things happen. If you focus on the ending of your book you can't capture what is going on in the "meat" of the book. For example, when writing my book MARRIED WOMEN; FROM GIRLS TO WOMEN, there were so many issues going on I didn't worry about the end until I was on the last chapter. I tied everything going on together and figured out how to solve each issue. The reason it flowed so well is because I focused on each issue not the end story.
5) Write Often - When you write more you begin to have a creativity that flows without you even knowing. Writing is just like any other profession. The more you do it, the better you get. You don't have to write novels everyday, but you can blog, contribute to other writers stories, and do short stories.
6) Write to connect readers - When readers find out the type of writer you are and they feel connected to your characters or your writing style, you are more likely to connect to those readers and they will keep supporting your work. People like writers they feel connected with. The ones they understand.
If you are an author and you feel these tips helped you please share this with other authors and inspired writers. The world has millions of writers, but there is only ONE you.
