7 Christmas Time Travel Tips

We all know that traveling during the holidays will be busy, hectic and delayed at some points. Even if you are prepared something can go wrong. However, if you keep these 7 Christmas time travel tips in your mind you will be able to get through it all with a smile on your face and the holiday spirit shining bright. Here are 7 Christmas time travel tips.

1) Get there early - No matter where you are traveling and how you are traveling (airplane, car, boat, etc) get where you need to be early. If you are flying out get to the airport at least 3 hours early. If you are driving leave an hour earlier than normal. Traffic, accidents, forgetful things all play a part in delays. It is better to be there early then to miss your flight, boat or activity due to unexpected delays. You can't control others so leaving early is a great way to avoid headache and stressful situations.

2) Check in early - If you are able to check in to your hotel, flight, etc early it is best you do that. Some hotels will give up your room if you don't arrive by a certain time. If you are delayed or driving in a place with no internet and can't check in you may be upset and without a place to stay. If you can't check in early call the hotel or accommodations and let them know when you will be arriving.

3) Keep personal information on you - Don't put your passport, ID, cash, credit cards, or any other personal important information in luggage or checked bag. Airlines can loose bags or they can be delayed and you don't want your money or personal items away from you. You also don't want you money or credit cards being stolen. Make sure these items are always within you reach.

4) Pack snacks - When traveling there is always a chance you may get hungry and there is nothing for you to stop and order. If you pack small snacks you can be held over until you reach your destination. This will also help with not having a hunger headache, or attitude issue because you are hungry.

5) Smile - Even though many people are busy and traveling it is still the holiday season. You never know who may help you out faster or just wish you the best because you are smiling and showing the holiday spirit. Some people are actually looking for people to donate, help, or just let them go before them in line because they are filled with cheer.

6) Have a back up plan - If for some reason you are delayed make sure you have a back up plan. A place to stay, another route, or family members to call. This is a common issue during Christmas and if you flight is delayed 8 hours, if you have a friend or family member to call and have them pick you up and take you back in 8 hours at least you won't feel frustrated at the airport. Especially if it is late in the evening and you have to come back in the morning.

7) Send Christmas gifts before you go - Many thieves are looking for Christmas presents during the holiday season. If you can send them prior to going then you can be sure your loved ones receive their gifts. This also helps you with baggage claim and weight issues. This way even if their are delays you know your gifts will be with loved ones.

Christmas time is a time of cheer and fun. Families gather and celebrate a wonderful year by telling stories, giving gifts and enjoying each others company. Don't be a scrooge because your holiday trip had unexpected issues. Plan early, and be sure to do your best to avoid common issue people have then get frustrated. Stay safe, stay focused and stay traveling. Happy Travels.
