Hello party people. I created this portion of my blog to help those who email, call or message me everyday asking for writing tips. I have an online book course that will tell you everything you need to know to write and print your book for free. If you don't need the entire course I break down some of the information in this blog. Today the topic is How to formate your book for print. This means what size your book will be when it is printed and how to formate it yourself.
One of the biggest misconceptions first time book writers have is they have to need the same size book as other writers. You don't. You want to stand out. You want people to SEE your book. If you've never written a book before this will seem foreign, but will definitely be a benefit.
What size do you want your book? Big, small, average size. This determines how many pages you will have and large your book will be. The average size is 5x8. A larger, but still common size is 6x9. So, if you have written your book and it's 100 pages. You will want a 5x8 or smaller size book because you don't have that many pages and you want it to be a book not a magazine thickness. If you have 600 pages you may want a 6x9 book to have larger pages. When you're writing your book you're writing it in 8x11 format (typical printing paper size). So the pages will change once you format your book. Just remember the more pages the thicker the book.
You can go on KDP with Amazon to get tips, tricks and size information. You will have to create an account, but it's free and you will use it for information. Even if you don't publish with Amazon. I used this for my 4th book and it allowed me to understand what my end result would be. This will also allow you to figure out your margins for your book. You don't want words running off the page or getting cut off so you have to make sure your margins fit with your book size.
I have included a 7 minute video to help you with how to formate your book in word. This is the easiest way to format your book yourself for free. Some companies will tell you that you need to hire a professional, but you don't, if you're familiar with word. If you have a Mac computer you can use the internet word and write your book. Start formatting your book today and create the book of your dreams. Helpful tips, tricks and ideas to help you write your story- Happy Writing!
