Think of the way you feel on a warm, summer day spent with friends or family. The sun is shining, the vibes are good, and you’re happy and content.

Warm summer weather generally makes it easier for people to feel happier overall. Similarly, it’s easier to feel down when the weather starts getting colder. This phenomenon is called seasonal depression. The full name is actually Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD.
Aside from having a very apt name, SAD is quite common, and usually strikes in the fall and winter months. However, there are a few things you can do if you feel it coming on. Staying active, talking to friends and family, and doing things to distract yourself are all great ways to combat SAD. One popular distraction activity is to read. Although reading in general is a good way to distract yourself, reading mental health books could help as well.
Below are the top 7 mental health books that we suggest. These could not only improve your mental health in the fall and winter, but also improve the overall quality of your life.

The title basically speaks for itself! Psychiatrist Dr. Rosenthal was part of the team that first identified Seasonal Affective Disorder. Dr. Rosenthal has since done copious research on how to treat it. His book teaches his readers tips on how to stay happier all year long!
